Price Truth

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 July 2026

Price Truth is built so that comparing prices never means giving up your privacy. We do not sell your data, we do not build advertising profiles, and we never attach your identity to anything. This page explains exactly what the extension does with data.

What we collect

When you open a product page on a supported store, Price Truth records details about that product and how the store lists it — the price, product code, brand, barcode, title, category, image, its rating and number of reviews, the seller, the item condition, the delivery cost the store charges, the store, and the time — and sends this anonymously to our shared price database. This is what makes cross-store comparison possible — every price checked improves the data for everyone.

Every one of these describes the product and the store’s listing, not you. There is no field that records who you are or what else you looked at.

When a store publishes no barcode for a product, we also compute a short mathematical fingerprint of its listing photograph, so the same product can still be recognised at another store. This fingerprint cannot be turned back into the picture and says nothing about who viewed it — it describes the photograph, not a person.

This is never linked to you. No account. No name, email, or sign-in. No user or device identifier is ever attached to it. No browsing profile is built. Web addresses are stripped of tracking parameters and reduced to the product path before they leave your device.

It is a catalogue of product prices, not a record of who looked at them. The extension still works using only what you’ve seen yourself.

Anonymous usage counts

We also keep a simple tally of how often, per store and per day, the extension showed a price verdict or flagged a misleading discount — for example “a fake-discount warning was shown 12 times on Store X today”. These are totals about stores. They are added up on your device before anything is sent, carry no identifier, and include no record of which products you personally looked at or in what order.

This is what lets us measure which stores run the most misleading “sales”.

What stays on your device

Your alerts, settings, and local price history stay in your browser and are not sent anywhere — except to check the price of a product you explicitly asked us to watch. By default we keep a price history only for products you set an alert on; opening a page otherwise stores nothing.

Permissions

No access to your browsing history, no access to sites other than the stores you enable, no cookies, no keystroke or form data.

How we make money

If you click a link to buy at another store, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We only ever add a referral when you click a button — never just because you visited a page — and if that link already credits someone else, we take nothing. Every commissioned link is labelled where you click it.

Data sharing

Anonymous product prices are pooled across everyone using Price Truth so that one shopper’s find helps the next. We do not sell personal data, and there is no personal data in the price pool to sell — it contains no identifiers.
